If you'd like to watch a video walkthrough of how to play card solitaire, check out this helpful 5-minute tutorial by Gather Together Games. I've written out the basic rules below.
Your main goal is to move all these cards into four piles, one for each suit. The suits are Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades. The piles need to start with the aces at the bottom and ending with the kings at the top.
It sounds easy, but there's a catch. You have to follow some rules to get there.
Set It Up: This is done for you in the online game automatically. First, the cards are layed out in a specific way. Seven piles that kind of look like a mini staircase layed out horizontally in a tableau.
The first pile has one card, the second has two, and so on, up to the seventh pile. Only the last card in each pile is facing up so you can see it.
The Magic Moves: Once the computer has set up the cards, now it's your turn to begin playing the game. You can move the cards around based on their numbers and suits. But, only a king can start a new pile if you've cleared one out.
This is the main rule: you can only stack cards on each other in descending order and by alternating colors (red on black, black on red).
Each pile is fanned out vertically in an overlapping fashion. The lets you see how many up cards, and the values of the cards, in each pile.
Winning the Game: You win when you've moved all the cards into the four piles at the top, starting from aces all the way to kings. It feels awesome to see everything in order.
